New Year’s Resolutions for 2019 Collab

Happy New Year!  Today is the first page in the 365-page story of 2019, what a thought!  Today I’m keeping a now three-year tradition (crazy right?) with my sweet blogging friend, Cayleigh from CNPrepster, in collaborating on a post sharing our resolutions for the new year.  I seriously adore Cayleigh’s blog and am so grateful for the friendship we’ve formed through the blogging community over the past few years.  I’m so excited to see what she has in store for her blog and life in 2019!  Be sure to read her post on her resolutions for 2019 here.  As some of you may already know, 2019 is the year that holds my high school graduation, meaning it’ll be full of bittersweet lasts and nervewracking yet exciting firsts!  I’ll be heading to Baylor University in Waco, Texas (14 hours away from my current home in South Carolina) next fall to study journalism and apparel merchandising, and while I can’t wait to begin college I’m also in awe of the fact that my high school career is almost over.  I’m hoping these resolutions will push me towards my ultimate goals for 2019 and serve as reminders of the life I want to live this year, one that finds joy in every moment and never takes a second for granted.  Without further adieu, here are my resolutions for 2019!

Thanks for reading!  I hope you’ve had a fabulous time celebrating the New Year and that your 2019 is full of blessings, lessons, and fabulous experiences!  Don’t forget to check out Cayleigh’s post here.Screen Shot 2018-08-08 at 12.13.06 PM

Wrapped Up in Velvet & Tied with a Bow Collab

Hey y’all, happy Friday!  I’m thrilled to share this look with y’all today, it’s definitely been one of my favorite outfits this season.  I purchased the skirt I’m styling in this post on sale after seeing it in one of my blogging friends’, Julia of Sunshinestatejulia, Instagram stories and now that we both have it we thought it’d be fun to do a collaboration with it!  I can’t wait to see how Julia styles the skirt, be sure to check out her post here!  Enjoy!

The skirt that I’ve been raving over is an adorable blue crushed velvet wrap skirt.  I’ve been loving the velvet trend recently and I think the fact that this skirt ties with a bow on the side is just the best!  Plus, it’s less than $20 right now, get one for yourself here before they’re gone!  I opted for a simple grey v-neck sweater on top since the skirt already makes a statement.  I personally struggle with v-necks often, finding them uncomfortably low, but this Banana Republic sweater’s neckline is just right if you ask me!  I recently picked up these Sam Edelman black over the knee boots half off from Nordstrom and I just can’t get over how nice they look with this outfit!  As far as jewelry, I kept it simple with some fun and elegant gold pieces.  My everyday rings and Kate Spade watch were an obvious must but a few of my recent favorites also made an appearance.  I’m obsessed with these pearl hoop earrings, asymmetrical initial necklace, and winking eyes cuff bracelet.

How to Style a Herringbone Vest Collab

I first saw J.Crew’s herringbone vest back in 2014 and I’ve wanted one ever since.  Recently, it went on sale for under $40.00 (as opposed to its original $89.00 price on the J.Crew Factory site) and I knew I just had to get it.  I’ve loved styling it ever since and today I’m collaborating with my friend Cayleigh from CNPrepster to share our favorite ways to wear the vest!  I adore Cayleigh’s blog, so be sure to check it out and read her post here.  Enjoy!

As my style has evolved since seeing the herringbone vest for the first time, my vision for an outfit including it shifted from layering it over a Ralph Lauren button down with jeans and ballet flats to what I’m wearing in today’s look.  I love mixing simple prints, like the vest’s herringbone with the classic blue pinstripes on this button down.  To offset the “preppiness” of the button down and vest combo, I wore a simple and trendy gold choker from KyzBeadz.  KyzBeadz has a ton of fun and affordable jewelry that’s super in right now and I’d definitely recommend the Etsy shop!  The choker coordinates perfectly with my favorite gold high top sneakers, basic gold hoop earrings, gold Kate Spade watch, and gold and white beaded bracelets from Sashka Co.  To add a fall appropriate pop of color, I chose my distressed army green jeans from Old Navy.  I absolutely love these pants, they’re super comfortable and perfect for autumn.

3 Ways to Style a Jadelynn Brooke French Terry Cloth Tee

I’m so beyond thrilled to be spending a third semester as a high school ambassador for Jadelynn Brooke!  If you read this post on my experience as an ambassador last school year, you already know I absolutely loved it.  I recently received my first rep box which contained a plain aqua blue v-neck tee made of French terry cloth.  Upon seeing this particular tee in the package I immediately saw its versatility and potential in dozens of outfits.  Today I’m so excited to share three ways to style this tee!  This post is a Jadelynn Brooke themed collaboration with my friend Olivia from Brightest of the Bunch!  Be sure to check out her YouTube video here, it’s her Jadelynn Brooke collection!  Enjoy!

An Athleisure Look

Perfect for a day of casual hangouts with friends, running errands, or actually running, this look is sporty and comfortable yet adorable.  Pair the French terry cloth tee with a cute pair of athletic shorts (Jadelynn Brooke shorts in particular are crazy comfortable, more so than Nike shorts, and come in several precious patterns) and tennis shoes to recreate this look yourself.  I added a few simple jewelry pieces to make this look a little nicer, but you might choose not to include jewelry if you’re actually using this look for physical activity.

Simple and Trendy

I love styling a basic top with jeans and some trendy pieces, which is exactly what I did here!  The French terry cloth tee easily pairs with all the current trends, including metallic high tops and chokers.  I’ve been obsessing over chokers lately, especially neutral white and gold ones that layer well with my Kendra Scott Elisa pendant necklace.  I love this one form DesignsbyShelbs, check out her Etsy shop here!  This look can be recreated by wearing the tee with a pair of jeans (ripped jeans would look great with it too!), sneakers like Converse, New Balances, Vans, or BANGS (you name it), and a choker layered with a simple necklace.

Dressed Up

Nothing screams versatility to me quite like the ability to style the piece with athletic shorts and a skirt.  The pretty color and cuffed sleeves of the French terry cloth tee make it just nice enough to pair with a cute skirt like the one above from J.Crew!  Finish off the look with a nice pair of sandals, wedges, or flats and some fun jewelry for a cute, slightly dressier look perfect for church or dinner out with your family.  I also think this tee would be super cute tucked into a denim skirt!

Thanks for reading!  Now that you see the incredible range of versatility that comes with the Jadelynn Brooke French terry cloth tee, you know it’s definitely worth the price.  You can even receive 15% off your total purchase from Jadelynn Brooke with my code “FLHS”.  The tee comes in five adorable colors, and I honestly wouldn’t blame you for buying one of each.  Purchase yours here!  Also, don’t forget to check out Olivia’s collaborative YouTube video here.

How I Organize My Planner Collab

I know it’s not Tuesday, but today I’m sharing a “bonus post” in my Back to School series this week, and it’s a collaboration!  I’m collaborating with Cayleigh from CNPrepster to show you how we organize our planners!  I’m so excited to be doing my third collaboration with Cayleigh, be sure to check out her post here!  I don’t know about you, but my life would be a train wreck if I didn’t have my planner to remind me of homework, practices, club meetings, my work schedule, and Bible studies.  While the planner I’m showing you today is the one I used last year, the way I’ve begun to organize my planner this year is pretty much exactly the same!  I’ve divided my post into a few areas of depth; what I use, how I lay out my months, how I organize my daily sections, and how I utilize the “notes” area.  Enjoy!

What I Use

I use a large Kate Spade agenda.  I’ve found the size, layout, and style to be perfect for me.  I used to use Lilly Pulitzer agendas, but I just love the simplicity of the Kate Spade agendas so I bought another one this year!  Shop all of Kate Spade’s agendas here (the one I purchased for this school year is linked here!).  I use a set of colorful gel ink pens that was gifted to me about a year ago to color code everything I write in based on class or activity.  I was unable to find this exact set online but I’ve linked a similar set here.

Month Overlook

The monthly overlook in Kate Spade agendas provides squares for every day in the month as well as a small “notes” section on the lefthand side.  I typically use the “notes” section to write in exciting things that are happening that month such as spring break, a big concert, the beginning of lacrosse season, holidays, etc.  As you probably already know from reading my blog, I love faux calligraphy and it’s no surprise that I use it in my planner too!  When I write in events and due dates in the monthly sections’ daily squares I like to have a variety of “fonts” if you will, so sometimes I write in faux calligraphy, sometimes I write in all caps, sometimes I just use my regular handwriting, it’s really just whatever I feel like doing.  I typically write my major classwork due dates in using colors that somewhat coincide with that class’ binder.  The pen colors I have that aren’t similar to any of my binder colors (in last year’s case red and orange) are used for writing in extracurricular events such as lacrosse games, YoungLife clubs, Bible studies, choir concerts, major blog posts, and dinner dates with friends.  For the sake of keeping my monthly calendar looking color balanced I will occasionally use a color that actually belongs to a class to write in an extracurricular (take the photoshoot on Saturday the 4th for example), but that doesn’t usually throw me off.

Weekly Sections

Kate Spade agendas provide a full spread for each week and seven lines per day.  I have seven school periods each day (two of which last year were choir and a study hall), so this is perfect for me to use a line per class.  I mentioned I had choir and study hall because I never had homework for either of those classes, so I usually had two extra lines in which I wrote in due dates and extracurriculars that take place on that particular day.  I write in each class’ homework in colors that correspond to their binder colors and use the extra pen colors for extracurriculars, just like in the month overview section.  If something big is happening one weekend and it’s planned more than a week or so ahead of time (like a wedding, friend’s birthday party, or anchor club fundraiser) I will write it in, but I usually don’t write anything in on Saturday and Sunday because most of my weekend plans are made pretty last minute.  I usually use Saturday’s seven line allotment to write in a little weekend To Do list for myself.  These typically include completing some long term assignments, studying for assessments the following week, and shooting/writing specific blog posts (all of which gets written down in its usual color coded pen color).

“Notes” Section

I’ve never been one to truly use the “notes” sections in any agenda for the purpose of actually taking any type of notes.  However, last year I started using these pages in my agenda to brainstorm blog post ideas and I’ve absolutely loved it.  You can see several of my past ideas in the picture above, some of which I went on to write (the “Steal Her Style” idea went on to become my “An Outfit Inspired by…” series) and some of which I’m still working on.  I organize these ideas into a few categories; “Style,” “Christianity,” and “Life, DIY, Etc.”  I think this is a great way to utilize your agenda’s “notes” pages if you’re any type of content creator, whether that means you’re a blogger, YouTuber, Instagrammer, etc.

Blue & White Collab

I’d definitely say my style has made some shifts over the past few years.  At this point, I don’t even know how to describe it, it’s really just whatever I want to wear.  What can I say, I like what I like!  One color combination I have absolutely loved through all of my style’s phases is white and blue.  I adore white and blue pinstripes and love seeing a simple white top styled with a denim miniskirt.  The combination of white and blue is just too classic!  Today I’m collaborating with my friend Kathleen from Let’s Get Preppy to bring you two cute blue and white looks!  Kathleen’s blog was one that made me want to start my own blog way back when and I’m sure y’all will love her blog just as much as I still do to this day!  Be sure to check out her white and blue ensemble here.  Now, onto my blue and white look, enjoy!

Like I said, I’m a sucker for blue and white pinstripes.  I’m also fond of belle sleeves, bows, and shirt dresses, which makes the dress I’m wearing today a definite favorite of mine!  I got this pretty number on sale at Gap a few months back so unfortunately it’s not available online anymore, but I linked several similar dresses I found below!  I definitely think this dress could easily be dressed up with some heels or wedges, but for this look I decided to dress it down a bit with some gold Jack Rogers sandals.  For a pop of color, I wore a fun pair of coral tassel hoop earrings from E Squared.  E Squared has lots of adorable jewelry pieces at great price points, be sure to check them out here!  I kept the rest of my jewelry pretty simple with my everyday Kendra Scott necklace, Giving Key bangle, MantraBand, Kate Spade watch, rose gold ring, and Sashka Co. beaded bracelets.
