A Good Kind of Black and Blue

Typically the phrase “black and blue” refers to bruises or perhaps emotional scarring, but how often have you thought of it as a color combination?  Today’s ensemble combines a pretty pale blue top with some edgier black ripped jeans for a cool, chic look. Enjoy!

If you know me personally you know I’m an online shopping addict (that’s why I’m giving it up for Lent!  More on that here).  I’m on far too many brands’ email lists and I simply can’t resist a good sale.  Lucky for me, when I purchased this adorable light blue faux wrap top from J.Crew, it was marked down to under $20, so the damage wasn’t too bad.  For this look, I paired the delicate blue top with a pair of black raw hem ripped jeans from Old Navy.  I opted for some simple black Vans to match that somewhat “edgy” feel for lack of better words.  To bring a little extra dose of chic, I wore one of my current favorite pairs of statement earrings (from Etsy!) which resemble some glitzy angel wings along with my simple asymmetrical initial necklace from Anthropologie.  I’ll let you in on a little secret – those earrings look pretty expensive if you ask me, but they’re only $25!

Very Velvet

It’s been way too long.  Life is hectic and while trying to soak up every moment of senior year I appear to have left my blog behind for a little bit.  I’m not going to promise this is the start of consistent posting because it might not be, but please believe me when I say I’m not giving up this platform anytime soon!  I love you all so very much and I miss this creative space, it’s just hard to make time right now.  That said, let’s get into what I can guarantee – today’s blog post!

Winter outfits can get pretty drab, with the dark colors and all.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a grey chunky sweater just as much as the next girl, but at some point enough is enough.  One of my favorite ways to make my winter wardrobe a little more fun is to add some fun color!  Today’s look includes a rich gold velvet tank and a bright pair of emerald green earrings.  Enjoy!

Ever since I decided on Baylor my eyes have gravitated towards all things green and gold (oops), so when I saw this J.Crew tank in the sale section, I knew I needed it.  To lighten up the outfit and stay warm, I paired the tank with a white cardigan I recently purchased at my local Marshalls.  The bold top called for a pair of simple dark wash Old Navy skinny jeans, which I cuffed at the ankle to wear with my TOMS booties.  I accessorized with a fun pair of green tassel earrings from Altar’d State (again with the green and gold color combination…see what I mean?) that tied into the colors on the booties as well as my go-to Kendra Scott necklace and my MantraBand.

Stripes & Sneakers

Long time no see!  I don’t want to make excuses for my absence because it’s really just due to the fact that I’ve been prioritizing other things over my blog lately.  I haven’t felt super motivated to shoot outfits in the past few weeks, but as I’ve used that time to read devotionals and dig deeper into Scripture, I’ve been inspired to pursue this blog with Christ at the center.  Be on the lookout for more faith-related posts soon!  I’ve missed blogging so very much this past month or so and I’m so excited to be sharing my first outfit post in what feels like forever today.  Enjoy!

I purchased this Urban Outfitters top $10 off (it’s on sale again, by the way!) a few days after Christmas and I’m obsessed with it.  I have to admit, these oh so popular thermal button-downs live up to the hype.  This thing is so soft and so cute!  My favorite way to style this striped thermal is currently with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and my platform Converse sneakers.  I received these sneakers for Christmas and I just think they’re the perfect go-to shoe – the taupe color goes with everything and they can easily be dressed up or down!  I accessorized with a pair of turquoise stacked tassel earrings from Bauble Bar, my Kendra Scott Elisa pendant and James Avery cross necklaces layered, and my everyday bracelets and rings.  This look is perfect to wear to school or to a casual hangout with friends!

Yellow Surplice Sweater

One random fun fact about my fall wardrobe is that I only have a few long sleeve tops, but I have a ton of sweaters.  For some reason, and that reason is not just cool weather, I gravitate towards sweaters.  The structure of the look I’m sharing today is one that you’re likely to find me wearing any given day between October and February.  Today’s particular variant of my go-to sweater-jean-and-bootie combo includes one of my new favorite sweaters.  Enjoy!

I won’t lie, I’ve been extra drawn to yellow/gold and green ever since I got into Baylor.  I found this yellow surplice sweater at my local Marshalls and between the pretty fall color and soft material, I knew I had to buy it!  Because the sweater is a surplice style, I’m always sure to wear a tank underneath.  For this look, I paired the sweater with a pair of dark wash jeans, which I cuffed above a pair of TOMS booties.  I love these booties because they bring so many bright, fun colors to a look, including the purple that I also incorporated through my stacked purple tassel earrings.  As for the rest of my jewelry, I kept it simple with my plain gold rings and Kendra Scott Elisa pendent necklace in white pearl.

Over the Knees & Bell Sleeves

I have this running joke with my friends and family that my outfits are often very “blogger” of me when they’re a little more “out there” or bold.  Today’s look, including over the knee boots with white jeans in October, is definitely one of those blogger outfits.  I’m also obsessed with the sweater in today’s look and I’m so beyond excited to be breaking it out for another season now that it’s finally getting cold!  This ensemble is a fun break from the normal fall and winter outfits and I think I’ll be repeat-wearing it quite a bit in the next few months.  Enjoy!

This purple bell sleeve sweater is a piece I splurged on from Nordstrom last fall after seeing it on Dani Austin’s Instagram story.  I love this pretty purple hue for the cooler months and I’m a sucker for anything with bell sleeves!  Unfortunately, this sweater is no longer available online but I linked a few similar ones below!  I paired the sweater with white jeans (this far after Labor Day, I know!) to contrast my black over the knee boots.  I got these Sam Edelman over the knee boots in January and I’ve absolutely loved them – they’re so fun to style and I think they’re so flattering on your legs.  I accessorized with my matching Kendra Scott white pearl Elisa pendant necklace and Danielle earrings then added my key necklace for a little variety.

Blue & White

Ask me how happy I am that I can finally wear a sweater in South Carolina without sweating my brains out (hint: I’m really happy)!  Sweaters are great because they’re so comfortable yet still look nice and can be styled so many different ways.  Today I’m sharing a fun way to dress up your favorite basic sweater this fall season.  Enjoy!

One article of clothing I can always count on to bring an outfit from basic to put together is a denim skirt.  This one from Forever 21 was under $20 (but I’ve had it for over a year and it’s still working for me!) but they’re super easy to find these days.  As for shoes, I wore a simple pair of taupe suede booties.  I dressed up the look with some eye-catching jewelry, including this statement-making Twine & Twig necklace and my fun blue tassel fan hoop earrings from Cute Loops Jewelry!  I love these earrings’ different take on the tassel earring trend and the pastel blue color is so pretty.  Be sure to check out Cute Loops Jewelry and use my code FAITH15 for 15% off your order of $25 or more!
