Print Mixing in Layers

Is it just me or did this winter weather go from zero to one hundred (or should I say one hundred degrees to zero degrees) way too quickly?  I was wearing shorts to lacrosse practice a few weeks ago and now I can hardly walk around the house without a sweatshirt!  In today’s post I’m sharing one of my favorite warm outfits for the winter time, including a couple complimentary prints.  Enjoy!

This Christmas I participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange with several other influencers and my Secret Santa, Cayleigh from CNPrepster, was such an amazing gift giver!  One of the gifts she sent me was an adorable plaid blanket scarf with pretty yellow, orange, grey and green hues.  I have been so excited to wear it and thought it would pair nicely with my J.Crew herringbone vest.  With the outerwear bases covered for this potential outfit, I decided to pull from the scarf’s color pallet when composing the remainder of the ensemble.  I chose to wear a yellow sweater from Zara for my top (shoutout to my little sister for letting me borrow this sweater haha) and grey jeans on the bottom.  My favorite TOMS booties shared many colors with the scarf, so I thought it would be fun to bring the color back into the look on bottom by wearing these shoes.  With so much color in the outfit already, I opted for simple white and gold jewelry.

Styling a Silk Scarf

Y’all know firsthand that I’m no stranger to experimenting with new trends, but as much as I’ve seen silk scarves over the past year or so I just haven’t felt much of a desire to try them out myself.  I recently received a pair of silk scarves from Urban Outfitters for Christmas and figured two that came free to me meant it was about time I jumped on the trend!  Today I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to style one of my silk scarves.  I hope this look inspires you to try them out yourself, they add such a sophisticated and polished touch to any outfit (maybe that’s why flight attendants wear them)!

The scarf I chose to wear in this look is white with simple blue and navy stripes.  To match the scarf’s navy and bring out the light blue, I opted for a cute navy tank with fringe and embroidered straps.  Given that it’s around thirty or forty degrees in South Carolina now, I layered a soft grey cardigan over the tank to keep warm and give the look a cozier feel.  I dressed up the ensemble with a brown corduroy skirt and pearly Kendra Scott earrings, which I think kept the look feminine and fun despite the silk scarf’s often mature use.  As for shoes, I wore a simple pair of taupe suede booties that match just about anything, including this look!

Stripes, Sneakers, & Stars

I always love styling new additions to my closet in fun outfits after the holidays, and that’s exactly what I’m doing today!  The look I’m sharing with y’all includes a new pair of sunnies (my first nice pair, by the way), a crossbody I received after drooling over for literally three years, and an adorable necklace that Ginger Jewelry Store recently sent to me!  This chic look would be perfect for a day downtown, heading to the airport for a flight, or dinner with friends.  I hope y’all love this street chic look as much as I do!

I love the versatility of a chambray button down, and this has to be one of my favorite ways to style it.  In this look I unbuttoned the top and threw it on over a navy and white striped tee.  To avoid denim on denim, I opted for my favorite grey jeans.  I accessorized with a pair of Quay Australia sunglasses, a Rebecca Minkoff crossbody, my gold Kate Spade watch, thin gold hoop earrings, and a gold star necklace from Ginger Jewelry Store.  The necklace makes such a cute addition to the outfit and is proving to be great quality.  I’d definitely recommend checking out Ginger Jewelry Store’s Etsy for more fun jewelry!  The crossbody’s brown nubuck color matches my Ugg slip-on sneakers perfectly, so they seemed like the obvious shoe choice to complete the look.  Enjoy!

New Year’s Eve Outfit Inspiration 2017

Still searching for that perfect New Year’s Eve outfit?  Your inspiration is here!  Today I’m sharing a look that could easily be modified to fit just about any New Year’s Eve event, from a family get-together to a dressier party!  New Year’s Eve outfits are so special because they’re the last outfit you wear in one year and the first one you wear in the next, isn’t that neat?  The pressure to create the perfect look is definitely there, but it doesn’t have to be as hard as it sounds!  I hope you love this ensemble as much as I do!  Enjoy!

Given that I don’t live in a place with warm winters, the first item I pulled from my closet as an essential to a New Year’s Eve look is my white “teddy bear coat.”  These coats have been on trend over the last couple winters, and now that I own one I understand why!  They keep you warm, are so soft, and add a little extra dose of fancy to any outfit.  After establishing that I’d be wearing a warm coat, I decided a velvet tank would be suitable as well.  Velvet pieces have also become very trendy in 2017 plus they look so festive, especially in darker hues like black, royal blue, turquoise, grey, or this magenta!  I opted for a skinny pair of ankle jeans for a polished yet casual finish to the look, but a denim skirt or black pants would dress it up more!  I chose fashion over comfort with these rose gold heels, which definitely left my toes a little chilly, but the metallic rose gold just screams New Year’s Eve to me!  I accessorized with my gold MantraBand, a shimmery pair of white tassel earrings with gold stud bases, my typical gold Kate Spade watch, and a gold star necklace from Ginger Jewelry Store.  I think this necklace just completes the look so well, it the stars are so festive and remind me of fireworks or sparklers!  Check out the Ginger Jewelry Store’s Etsy here.

Christmas in Leopard

Merry Christmas!  I hope y’all have had a lovely day with your dearest friends and family celebrating Christ’s birth and the incredible gift of eternal life that His being brought about.  I also hope that you got everything you wanted, but even if you didn’t I hope you remember that the gifts really aren’t what Christmas is all about.  Today I’m posting a somewhat festive outfit that would be perfect for today (in all honesty I didn’t wear it today but I thought it would be a fun look to share!).  Enjoy!

I think playful patterns are so perfect for the holiday season, which makes the oh so trendy leopard print even more fitting for this Christmas!  My stepmother recently gave me this thin leopard J.Crew Factory sweater and I’ve loved styling it, leopard is so much more versatile than you might think!  I paired the neutral print with a maroon button down skirt from Forever 21 (I’ve had this skirt for a year and a half now and it’s still one of my most worn clothing pieces!).  I dressed up the skirt a bit with my lookalike Gucci belt (it was only $15!  Read my detailed post about the dupe here), a pair of hoop earrings with little crystal drops at the bottom, a crystal choker with a gold ring in the center, my Kate Spade watch, and some gold and white Sashka Co. bracelets.  I finished off the look with my taupe suede booties, which I get a ton of use out of this time of year.

An Outfit Inspired by Brooke Miccio

Today’s outfit post is another installment in my “An Outfit Inspired by…” series!  This look mimics the style of one of my favorite YouTubers, Brooke Miccio.  In case you’re new to this series, in these posts I tell y’all about one of my favorite influencers then share an outfit I created inspired by them.  If you’re interested in reading some of my previous posts in this series, you can find them here.  Without further adieu, let’s get on with an outfit inspired by Brooke Miccio!

Brooke Miccio is currently a sophomore in college studying business at the University of Georgia but is originally from New York.  She’s had her YouTube channel, Brooke Miccio (formerly BrookexBeauty), since high school and over the past few years it’s blossomed into a 152,500 subscriber name that has given her lot of opportunities.  She also has a 42,000 follower Instagram, @brookemiccio where she frequently posts photos of her outfits and travels, as well as a 12,500 follower Pinterest, @brookemicc.  Her content frequently includes fashion, lifestyle, college, and travel videos as well as vlogs.  Brooke loves to travel and has taken several trips to Los Angeles, the Caribbean, and Europe.  She’s close friends with Danielle Carolan, another popular fashion and lifestyle YouTuber who attends the University of Georgia (I styled an outfit inspired by Danielle too, check it out here!).  Brooke’s style is trendy and minimalist, typically including lots of neutrals and chic jewelry.

(The images above are from the @brookemiccio Instagram page and belong to Brooke.  Their respective posts are linked within the images!)

In my attempt to imitate Brooke’s style, I chose to create an athleisure look, similar to outfits Brooke wears to class or to the airport.  She’s no stranger to ripped jeans, so I borrowed a pair my younger sister recently ripped to achieve the trendy, edgy look.  I recently purchased this grey lace-up sweatshirt from Old Navy, which I could totally see Brooke wearing, so I paired it with the ripped jeans.  Brooke, like me, adores her trendy and chic sneakers, so I opted for my white and gold New Balance for J.Crew sneakers.  As for jewelry, I chose a simple gold choker from KyzBeadz to match the shoes (plus I think Brooke has a gold choker like this one!).  I love all my KyzBeadz jewelry and I’d recommend checking Kylee’s Etsy shop out for more fun and trendy jewels!  The long and comfy sweatshirt sleeves cover my wrists and Brooke’s ears aren’t pierced, so I decided to leave my jewelry there.  Enjoy!
