Five Favorites; August 2018

And just like that, August has come and gone.  This month I began my senior year of high school, how crazy is that?  Today I’m sharing another “Five Favorites” post, which shows you some of my favorite things from this month!  Since I just went back to school, a lot of these pieces are my go-to planning and relaxation items for the school year!  This is my seventh “Five Favorites” post, so if you’re interested in reading my favorites from previous months you can find them here!  Enjoy!

Five Favorites Template

  1. My Daily Prayer Pad – My friend gave me this for my birthday back in June, and after finishing the prayer and gratitude journal I mentioned last month, I thought I’d start on another!  This is just a simple lined pad with Bible verses at the bottom of each page, so the way you use it is pretty much up to you.  I keep it on my nightstand and write down my prayers of thanks and requests each night!  This one is supposed to last me a whole year, so I’m really excited to use it for an extended period of time!
  2. Erin Condren Stary Sky Metallic LifePlanner in Gold – I got this planner for senior year at the beginning of the month and to say I’m obsessed is an understatement.  I’ve loved using this agenda to write down homework, club meetings, and plans!  The layout makes staying organized and on top of things so much easier and since I customized it, the cover is everything I wanted and more.
  3. Madewell Petaldrop Earrings – I actually don’t own these earrings, but my sister does and I’ve been borrowing them a lot recently.  I love the length and the funky touch the funky shape adds to an outfit!
  4. Jadelynn Brooke “Magnolia Moments” Candle – If you’ve read any of my previous “Five Favorites” posts you’ve probably figured out by now that I’m obsessed with candles.  Jadelynn Brooke sent me this one from their 3 Happy Hooligans collection back in the spring and I just started burning it this month!  Wow, let me just say this candle’s scent is just as good as its printed jar and pompom lid are cute.
  5. Vans Old Skool Sneaker in Black – I’m not going to lie, when I got these for Christmas as my sister opened the same pair in blush pink I thought “man I wish I’d gotten those, how am I going to style a pair of black vans that aren’t even hightops?”  That’s particularly funny because that day I begged my little sister to trade me and she refused, but earlier this week she begged to trade for my black ones and I’ve reached a point where I love them so much I wouldn’t dare trade them.  They’re so fun to pair with jeans and a fun tee or with a denim skirt to make the look a little more casual!

Five Favorites; July 2018

There are no words for how quickly July flew by.  I spent the majority of July serving as a housekeeper on Work Crew at YoungLife’s Saranac Village (check back on Thursday for a post on Work Crew including a video!), then shortly after coming home I went on a weekend trip to North Carolina with my friend, and now I’m spending the final two days of the month at a yearbook workshop.  As a result of the chaos contained by July, this month’s edition of “Five Favorites” includes a lot of things that have been critical to my month of service and travel.  This is my sixth “Five Favorites” post, so if you’re interested in reading my favorites of January, February, March, May, and June you can check them out herehere, here, here, and here!  Enjoy!

  1. Bath and Body Works Twilight Woods Fine Fragrance Mist – I’ve bought this body spray over and over again and I never tire of this scent!  Having it while I was on Work Crew was a total lifesaver, it was perfect to freshen up in a short break between work and an event in which I didn’t have time to take a shower!
  2. Kendra Scott Danielle Gold Statement Earrings in White Pearl – I’ve had these gorgeous earrings for almost two years and I’ve always loved them, but I’ve especially loved using them to dress up my fancy night outfits while on Work Crew!  They’re super versatile and add so much to an outfit.
  3. Voluspa Macaron Candle in Rose Petal Ice Cream – My sweet little sister bought this candle for me as a late birthday gift while we were in San Diego and I’m obsessed.  I don’t even know how to describe how it smells, it just smells amazing!  The gorgeous pink candle jar is an added bonus.
  4. Candy Cane Chapstick – This chapstick is my absolute favorite!  It lasts for a pretty long time and the flavor’s a little sweeter than your typical peppermint!
  5. May Designs 40 Days of Prayer + Gratitude Journal – I’m going to be honest, prayer doesn’t come super naturally to me.  In my time on Work Crew, I learned to turn to God in prayer with everything, and this journal played a big part in that!  Writing down the things I want to pray for as well as the things I’m thankful for has really helped me get into a habit of constant prayer and reminds me of all the blessings of the day, even when it feels like a bad one.  After my YoungLife leader gave me this journal as a birthday gift, I waited to start it on day zero of Work Crew (arrival day) and am almost finished with it!  I absolutely recommend this journal no matter where you are in life right now but I think it’s an especially awesome tool to have while on Work Crew!

Five Favorites; June 2018

Happy (almost) July!  I’ve been up to so much over the month of June, including leading at WyldLife summer camp, going on a trip to San Diego (with a stop in Texas), and serving on Work Crew at YoungLife’s Saranac Village in NY (where I am still serving as you’re reading this!).  A few material items (and albums) have been key to thriving in this fun month, so today I’m sharing my third “Five Favorites” post, which rounds up my favorite things in the month of June!  This is my fifth “Five Favorites” post, so if you’re interested in reading my favorites of January, February, March, and May you can check them out herehere, here, and here!  Enjoy!

  1. SheIn Ruched Bandeau Bikini Set – After seeing a colorful smocked bikini in Instagram spring break posts all through the month of April, I began searching for this trendy set.  For the longest time the only suit I could find that fit the pictures was a pricy Tory Burch set (I’m talking $118 for the top alone), but while browsing SheIn’s website one day I finally found this coveted set under $20 total!  I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this bikini and I’m so excited to continue wearing it all summer!
  2. Freestyle Shark Classic Clip Watch in Taupe/Neon – I’ve been wanting one of these fun sports watches for a year now and I’m so happy I received one for my birthday before leaving for Work Crew!  I personally think this watch is much cuter than most sports watches, plus it reminds me of something from the 80s!  This hot pink, neon orange, and taupey grey color combo is hands down my favorite, but I also like this white, purple, orange, and mint combo!
  3. don’t smile at me EP by Billie Eilish – I have no idea how many hours I’ve spent listening to this EP (especially while traveling) in the month of June but if I knew it’d probably be some crazy and embarrassing number.  Billie’s music is just so beautiful and relatable while simultaneously being violent and exaggerated.  Her voice is absolutely stunning and I will never be over the fact that she is actually younger than me.  My favorite songs from the EP are currently “Watch” and “COPYCAT.”
  4. Target SUGARFIX by BaubleBar Gold Hoop Studs with Crystal Earrings in Gold – I bought these earrings from the Target x BaubleBar SUGARFIX collection a few months ago and I’ve loved wearing them!  The simple gold and crystal combination makes them super versatile and the trendy shape spices up any outfit!
  5. invisibobble Original Traceless Hair Ring in Royal Pearl – I know these hair ties have been trendy for a couple years now, but I honestly thought they were so ugly until a month or so ago.  My little sister bought a set of these while we were in San Diego and she let me have one (shout out to her!) and I’ve kept it on my wrist ever since.  I do think they seriously make a difference in regard to dents in your hair post-ponytail plus they’re just way cuter on your wrist than any other hair tie!

Five Favorites; May 2018

I seriously can’t believe it’s almost June.  The past couple of months have been crazy (read my life update post here if you don’t believe me) and I’m so relieved school’s almost over!  Today I’m sharing my third “Five Favorites” post, which rounds up my favorite things in the month of May!  This is my fourth “Five Favorites” post, so if you’re interested in reading my favorites of January, February, and March you can check them out herehere, and here!  Enjoy!

May Favorites.jpg

  1. Forever 21 Star Accent Ankle-Wrap Sandals in Gold – I ordered these sandals (under $20!) to wear to prom and that had to be one of the best decisions I made in regard to prom.  I don’t regret wearing flat shoes at all, my feet were so comfy the whole night!  I’ve worn them a lot since prom too and I’m so happy with the quality!  These sandals are such a good deal and if you’re as obsessed with the star trend as I am you need these.
  2. Hosanna Revival Hosanna Bible in Paris Theme – I’ve had this Bible for almost a year now and it’s without a doubt one of my favorite things I’ve ever owned.  The size is perfect, the printed cover is gorgeous (and my favorite colors!), and the large margins enable me to doodle little illustrations and take notes!  I cannot say enough good things about Hosanna Bibles and you can get 10% off with the code HOSANNA10.
  3. Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S Instant Camera in White – I finally purchased a Polaroid camera at the start of spring brea and I’ve loved it!  I’ve taken it to the beach, Work Crew Weekend at Carolina Point, yearbook distribution day, and more.  I’ve loved being able to capture memories and print them into a tangible thing in moments, it’s so much fun!
  4. Rebecca Minkoff Molly Metro in Champagne – I received this little wallet with an attached keychain for Christmas and let me tell you it’s one of my favorite things ever (hence why it made it to the “Five Favorites” list).  The gold color is an obvious yes from me but it has so many compartments for a wallet that small!  It’s become the best way for me to keep all of my essentials with me; it holds my debit card, loyalty cards, license, school ID, cash, coins, chapstick, and a hair tie with ease!  The fact that it attaches to my keys is the most convenient thing because I literally can’t lose it.
  5. Nike Tanjun in Particle Rose/White – I just got these shoes as an early birthday gift (my birthday isn’t until June 12th but I wanted to have them early to take to WyldLife summer camp June 7-11th!) and I’m absolutely obsessed with them.  The color is so perfect (if you know me you know blush pink is my favorite color) and I’m convinced they’re the comfiest shoes in the world – significantly comfier than my New Balances!

Five Favorites; March 2018

It’s crazy to think it’s already April!  Today I’m sharing five of my favorite things in the month of March, from jewelry to music to shoes!  This is my third “Five Favorites” post, so if you’re interested in reading my favorites of January and February you can check them out here and here!  Enjoy!

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 9.14.36 PM.png

  1. Vans Old Skool Sneakers in Black – I received these classic Vans sneakers for Christmas and while I never would have picked them out for myself, I’ve grown to love styling them (thanks Nana)!  These go with just about anything; a cute top and jeans, a denim skirt and nice top, a casual sundress, a graphic tee and jeans, you name it!  The hightop Vans sneakers have gained a lot of popularity lately but I think this low top style is so underrated!
  2. The Lumineers’ Cleopatra LP – As y’all already know, I’ve been obsessed with my record player since receiving it for Christmas.  I purchased The Lumineers’ Cleopatra album on vinyl at Urban Outfitters while in Charleston back in January and I can’t stop listening to it!  My recent favorites have been “Gale Song,” “Ophelia,” and “Sleep on the Floor.”
  3. Quay Australia After Hours Sunglasses in Tortoise/Brown – I’d never really owned a “nice” pair of sunglasses prior to getting these for Christmas and I just can’t stop wearing them!  I love popping these on while driving home from school and I always wear them when we watch the JV lacrosse game before warming up for our varsity game.  Compared to other leading sunglass brands like Ray Ban, these are quite inexpensive and I just think they’re so chic!
  4. Smith’s Mocha Rose Rosebud Salve Tube – I’ve sworn by my candy cane Chapstick since middle school, but this sweet tube of hydrating gloss has become a go to of mine lately!  It’s fairly neutral but has a little color and is glossy but not overwhelmingly sticky, making it perfect for everyday use.
  5. Madewell Looker Hinge Cuff Bracelet – This bracelet was another purchase I made in Charleston back in January (read my post about the trip here if you’re interested!) and I’ve worn it constantly since!  I’ve been so into funky statement pieces lately and this one is just the best.

Five Favorites; February 2018

Can you believe that February’s about to be over?  I know I can’t, March sounds way too close to the end of the school year and I don’t know about how ready I am to conquer my three A.P. exams… I’m digressing, let’s get back to the point!  Today I’ve rounded up five of my favorite things this month in the second installment of my monthly “Five Favorites” series that I began in January!  If you’re interested in reading my picks from January, you can find the post here.  Enjoy!

January Favorites

  1. H&M Denim Jacket in “Light Denim Blue” – I’ve loved trying trends that seem a little more “out there” as of late and the return of the jean jacket sounds pretty out there to me!  I just got this one from H&M last week and I’ve already come up with a dozen ways to style it; its slightly oversized fit and perfect light wash color make it so perfect for everyday wear!
  2. Madewell Star Statement Earrings – I saw a blogger style these in December and I knew I just had to get my hands on a pair!  I’ve been obsessed with these earrings and I wear them nonstop!  I’m loving the star trend right now and these are far too easy to incorporate into my outfits daily.
  3. Grown-ish – This television series, a spin-off of Freeform’s popular Black-ish, focuses on the life of Zoey Johnson as she embarks on her freshman year of college at Cal U.  Away at school, Zoey faces the typical college run-ins with drugs, partying, relationships, breakups, and friendships.  Maybe it’s just my junior year fascination with college or the fact that Zoey is getting a fellowship at Teen Vogue (aka my dream), but I’ve been loving keeping up with this show!
  4. Urban Decay Original Eye Shadow Primer Potion – Long gone are the days that I refused to wear eye shadow in fear of creasing.  I get why this stuff it called a “primer potion,” it’s basically magic!  Personally, after an hour or two my eye shadow always creases (meaning it gathers in the wrinkles of my eyelids) and ends up looking awful.  I’d tried every “hack” I could find online, from using chapstick or concealer as primer to running the eye shadow brush under the sink before using it but nothing else works for me like Urban Decay’s eye shadow primer potion!  I’ve loved getting to experiment with eye shadow recently thanks to this product and I know I’ll be using it for a long time.
  5. Gold Metallic High Top Chuck Taylor All Star Sneakers – I got these sneakers last spring, but I’ve been wearing them almost everyday in the currently bipolar weather of South Carolina.  They make for such an easy outfit with a pair of rolled up jeans and a sweater or tee shirt!  I love the unique versatility that comes with the metallic gold color.  (See me style these sneakers in posts here and here!)
